Angry at hospital closures? Make your voice heard - Kirsty Williams

November 16, 2006 9:28 AM

Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for Brecon and Radnorshire, Kirsty Williams, is urging as many constituents as possible to attend a rally at the National Assembly for Wales to protest against the loss of local health services.

The rally, to be held on 22nd November, will be attended by campaigners from across Wales, angry at Local Health Boards' plans to close wards, or, in some cases, whole hospitals.

Ms Williams said: "The threat to local health services from Powys LHB, compounded by their lack of consultation and, frankly, complete mis-handling of the whole issue, has left my constituents furious - and rightly so. In my role as AM, I can vent my anger at the Chair and Chief Executive of the LHB, or the Health Minister at the Assembly, on a regular basis, but most constituents rarely get that opportunity. I would, therefore, urge them to join me, and those in similar predicaments from all corners of Wales, and lobby the Assembly on November 22nd."

Notes:

The rally, organised by Ms Williams in conjunction with Mark Isherwood, AM for North Wales, will take place at 12noon on November 22nd. Campaign groups from across Wales who are fighting to retain local health services in their communities have been contacted, and large numbers are expected, particularly from Mid Wales. The Health Minister has been invited, as have all other Assembly Members. Journalists and photographers welcome.
