Doctor takes protest to Assembly

November 20, 2006 11:59 AM

Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for Brecon and Radnorshire, Kirsty Williams, and Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly candidate for Mid and West Wales, William Powell, will be supporting local doctor James Wrench tomorrow as he begins his long journey to push a hospital bed from Bronllys to Cardiff.

The local GP from the Haygarth practice will begin the bed push at 8am tomorrow from the Llewellyn Ward at Bronllys hospital, aiming to arrive at the Welsh Assembly building in Cardiff Bay in time for the CHANT rally tomorrow lunchtime.

All journalists and photographers welcome. Kirsty Williams AM will be available for comment at the event, or in Cardiff after the event.

Notes:

· 24 consultant and GP beds are under threat at Bronllys, along with its day hospital and outpatient services, as part of Powys LHBs reconfiguration plans.

· On Wednesday lunchtime, hundreds of campaigners from across Wales will protest against hospital closures outside the Welsh Assembly building in Cardiff Bay. The event is being organised by CHANT (Community Hospitals Acting Nationally Together); Kirsty Williams AM will be addressing the protesters along with Mark Isherwood, Assembly Member for North Wales. All journalists and photographers welcome.
