Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for Brecon and Radnorshire, Kirsty Williams, has expressed her concern that good causes in Brecon and Radnorshire may miss out, due to the spiralling cost of the London 2012 Olympics.
The UK Government has admitted that the cost of the Olympics has hit £9bn, and it is believed that they may have to rely on National Lottery funding to meet this expense.
Ms Williams said: "Money raised by the National Lottery has benefited a number of causes and organisations in the constituency over the years. Obviously, if large sums of money are being put into the Olympics, there is less to go around for other projects. I think it would be highly undesirable if schemes that would bring benefit to local people are unable to get off the ground because of this diversion of funds, and I would urge the Assembly's Culture Minister to take this issue up with his colleagues at Westminster as soon as possible."
