Potential internet surfers slipping through the net - Kirsty WIlliams

August 28, 2007 2:00 PM

Welsh computer users are missing out on the internet revolution, according to new statistics out today, which show that 42% of households do not have internet access.

Welsh Liberal Democrat Enterprise spokesperson Kirsty Williams warned that businesses and students could be missing out on vital information and marketing tools.

"Most internet users in Wales make use of broadband, but too many parts of the country are cut off from the network - there were 64 'notspots' in my constituency of Brecon and Radnorshire alone in February this year. This has a serious economic impact on local businesses.

"The internet means unlimited research tools for students and allows Welsh businesses to advertise and sell their products internationally. I want to see the whole of Wales benefiting from the opportunities the internet provides."
