Shocking news has revealed that Setten and Durward, one of the biggest employers in Llandrindod Wells, has gone into administration under PricewaterhouseCoopers. The factory, which manufactures stationary and filing products, employs over 150 people in the rural mid-Wales town.
Lib Dem spokesperson for Economy and AM for Brecon and Radnorshire Kirsty Williams said:
" I am disappointed and worried by this devastating news. This is a very important employer in the area and I am urging all involved parties to do all they can to support the factory and its workers.
"I have tabled an urgent question to the Minister for Economy and Transport and am requesting an urgent meeting with him to discuss the important role the Assembly Government has in finding a buyer for the company.
"Roger Williams and I are also seeking an urgent meeting with the management and union representatives of the factory to show my support for the workers and offer my assistance in anyway possible.
"Over the last few months I have been working to assist the company with its growing financial difficulties and had hoped the difficulties could be resolved more favourably and with this news I will continue to work to keep the factory and its jobs in Llandrindod.
Roger Williams, Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Wales, and MP for Brecon and Radnorshire said:
"I welcome the fact that the company will continue to trade whilst a buyer is sought and hope that its record of producing a strong successful product will encourage buyers to come forward.
"Kirsty and I shall remain in close contact with all parties involved in the administration process and do all we can to push for the factory to continue trading under new ownership and without job losses."
