Williams meets with Minister over Brecon Beacons National Park

February 26, 2008 5:00 PM

Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for Brecon & Radnorshire Kirsty Williams today met with the Minister for Sustainability and Housing Jane Davidson AM to further discuss Brecon Beacons National Park's planning inspectorate following the damning Gilestone report.

The Meeting allowed the Minister to update Kirsty on the measures she has taken since their last urgent meeting at the end of January 2008

Kirsty said: "I was glad to hear that the Assembly will be receiving a fortnightly report from an independent advisor on how the Park is implementing the changes recommended by the Gilestone Report.

"I am also pleased to hear that that the Audit Commission is to review the National Park's performance later in the year to asses its level of improvement.

"I took the opportunity to stress once again the ongoing concerns of the ability of the National Park authority to manage its development control function under the current leadership, and brought to the attention of the Minister the high level of complaints I have received over the last month."

Notes:

Kirsty Williams is to meet with the Minister again in a fortnight's time.
