Kirsty Williams AM for Brecon & Radnorshire, has secured a meeting with the Deputy First Minister to discuss the DSA's plans to close the Test Centre in Llandrindod Wells, as part of proposals to close 13 Motor Cycle Test Centres across Wales; which would threaten local motorcycle businesses including 'Riders Edge' motorcycle training centre in Llanelwedd, Builth Wells.
Jonathan Halliday, Director of Riders Edge and Mark Kerr, Chief Executive of Powys County Council, will be attending the meeting with the Minister.
Kirsty Williams, Welsh Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Transport, said: "The closure of the test Centre in Llandrindod will leave Mid Wales without a single test centre and the DSA's proposals will leave Wales as a whole with only four. The potential subsequent loss of well reputed companies such as Rider's Edge will have a hugely negative impact upon the local economy.
"Jonathan Halliday has been working hard with Powys County Council officials to look for an alternative site to develop a multi-purpose test centre in Powys and I am delighted that we will now have the opportunity to present his plans to the Minister and to seek the Welsh Assembly Government's support for his innovative alternative to closure."
Mr Halliday is preparing a strategic business report to present to the Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones. The business plan will highlight the numerous economic benefits associated with the acquisition of a fifth Multi Purpose Test Centre facility in Wales.
Notes:
The meeting will take place at the Welsh Assembly Cardiff Bay offices on the 11th June
