Kirsty Williams, Welsh Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Transport said: "I welcome this investment in the Cardiff area resignalling and particularly in essential improvements between Queen Street, Cardiff Central and Cogan Junction which was a recommendation of the Enterprise Committee. It is good news for rail passengers and commuters but the WAG must not now sit back on its laurels - we need this investment to be part of an all Wales improvement to our rail network which benefits those in North, Mid and West Wales as well as those in the South.
"The planned station improvements are also highly welcome, particularly to Newport station which is essential for so many connecting rail passengers. The Assembly Government must use this opportunity to address the Ebbw Vale link to Newport, particularly with the recently announced cut to the bus link.
"The Assembly Government must now act to ensure that these proposals become a reality without the delays we are all too familiar with in the rail industry."
