AM & MP BACKING POST OFFICE CARD ACCOUNT CAMPAIGN

As part of their wider campaign to retain as many post offices as possible in Brecon & Radnorshire, AM Kirsty Williams and MP Roger Williams are calling on people to fill in and return the National Federation of Sub-Postmasters 'I WANT TO SAVE IT' Post Office card account postcards currently in sub-post offices across the country.

The Government is deciding on a successor to the current post office card account (POCA2).

Urging their constituents to support the campaign, Roger Williams said:

"Whether you use the Post Office Card Account or not, it is vital that as many people as possible support this campaign. If the Government takes away this service it will cause the closure of thousands more post offices, on top of the over 2,500 currently under threat of closure across the UK. Over 4 million people choose to receive their benefits and pensions through using the post office card in their local post office. They should still be able to do so in the future."

Kirsty Williams AM added:

"This Government's track record on post offices is dire. Since the Post Offices have lost their TV Licence business, the Government has discouraged the drawing of benefits and pensions from post offices and tried to bully drivers in to buying vehicle tax discs on-line rather than in their local post office. We cannot trust it retain the post office card account system. So, it is very important, for all our sakes, that people make it clear that we want the post office card account to stay and that we want more business to be done through post offices, not less."
