Kirsty Williams AM at the Royal Welsh Show, discussing Broadband matters in Powys

This week at the Royal Welsh Show, Kirsty Williams Assembly Member, for Brecon and Radnorshire, met with members of the public and the private sector to discuss 'not spot' areas within Powys - areas where there is no broadband internet connection.

In 2007 the Welsh Consumer Council reported that only 77% of the population in Powys, had access to broadband internet, despite BT's assurance that it was closer to 99%.

Kirsty Williams AM said, "Rural Wales has waited too long for this vital business tool. Broadband technology is one factor that can attract companies and individuals to locate in Mid Wales, and ensure real economic development in rural areas".

Kirsty added,"Its not just businesses that are suffering, residential customers are also missing out on services that many urban dwellers take for granted. BT has confirmed that they have no plans to upgrade the infrastructure in several communities including Tirabad and Felinfach leaving them marooned in the so called digital age."
