Commenting on the news that Coleg Menai Lecturers are to Strike over increased class sizes and reduced contact hours; Kirsty Williams AM, Welsh Lib Dem spokesperson for Education, has heralded the news as further signal of the WAG's failure to invest in FE.
Kirsty said:"The WAG has waxed lyrical about the skills agenda and the need to up-skill the workforce and yet they have failed to back this up with the necessary finances. Funding concerns are being born out in these frontline cutbacks. It should not be left to lecturers to fight for quality education - that is the job of Government, but is the Government that is aggravating the situation
"Since the below inflation allocation of 1.45% the FE sector has struggled with job threats and course cuts.
"The Government's refusal to invest fully in the sector is already having an affect on those in the frontline, I fear that if the WAG does do not inject some much needed cash then these increases in class sizes and reduction in teacher contact hours will spread further.
"The symptoms of the WAG's underinvestment in education are becoming more and more apparent - it must not be allowed to turn into an epidemic."
