Foundation Phase well budgeted for?

Kirsty Williams, Welsh Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Education, has welcomed with caution the news that the Foundation Phase will receive an extra £20m in 2009-10 and £40m in 2010-11 under the WAG's draft budget 2009/2010.

Kirsty said: "On the face of it this appears to be very positive news - an additional 60million would go a long way in helping address the initiative's under funding to date.

"Over the coming weeks I will be closely questioning the Government to clarify whether this is indeed 'new' money and does add up to the £107 promised by the Minister.

"Due to funding shortfalls the Government extended the roll out of the scheme for an extra year and it is essential that the fourth year also receives adequate funding and that the next two years budgeted figures do not draw money away from 2011/2012."
