Welsh Liberal Democrat research has revealed that Labour-Plaid Government spending on external consultants has more than doubled in the last four years. The bill for external contracts rose from £1.9 million in 2004-05 to £4.6million 2007-08 .
Kirsty Williams, leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats, has urged the government to make a New Year's resolution to ensure that the Welsh pound is being spent to the benefit and service of the people or Wales.
Kirsty Williams said:
"I am concerned that spending on external consultants from this Labour-Plaid Government has more than doubled in the last four years. I understand that the Government needs external specialist expertise from time to time but the doubling of their external consultants' bill in four years is alarming.
"In these difficult economic times when families have to tighten their belts, the people of Wales want to be reassured that the Assembly Government is also spending money responsibly.
"The Assembly Government has a responsibility to make sure our Welsh pound is spent wisely and has the biggest impact possible."
