Kirsty Williams and Nick Clegg have put the Welsh Liberal Democrats on alert for a Spring General Election - and declared they will be ready.
Speaking at a joint press conference in Westminster, the Welsh and UK leaders, said the party was ready for a Spring election, and looking to make gains.
Kirsty Williams said: "If Gordon Brown is thinking of calling a Spring election, then the Welsh Liberal Democrats will be ready. Our key candidates are in place, and in places where we have established ourselves as the clear rivals to Labour, we are pushing hard.
"Since the start of the leadership election, there's been a buzz about the party, and there's been an increase in membership. We're keen to push that even further. I want the Welsh Liberal Democrats to be a dominant force in Welsh politics.
"The General Election is an opportunity to move forward."
Liberal Democrat Leader Nick Clegg said:
"I'm absolutely delighted that Kirsty will be leading the Liberal Democrats in Wales in the run-up to the next General Election and beyond.
"I'm lucky enough to lead such an exciting team with the energy and fresh ideas to change Britain for the better.
"The people of Wales need change, not more of the same. Kirsty will be a breath of fresh air, putting forward new and innovative ideas to help Welsh families through the recession.
"She is a passionate and powerful advocate of liberalism in Wales, and I know the party will go from strength to strength under her leadership."
