Kirsty Williams, AM for Brecon and Radnorshire, today challenged BT on a number of not spots across her constituency.
Kirsty used a BT Wales & Ofcom Broadband Surgery at the Assembly to once again raise concerns about access in rural Powys as well as raising a number of specific cases.
Kirsty said:" The Assembly Government has invested large sums of money for BT to enable rural exchanges, something I feel the company should have been doing in the first place. Despite this investment of taxpayer's money too many communities, individuals and businesses in Powys are still without broadband access. In too many cases BT have confirmed that they have no plans to upgrade the infrastructure in several communities in the county and have offered no alternatives to residents.
"Broadband is not only a useful and engaging communication tool for individuals it is also essential for most businesses in today's day and age. By forgetting many parts of Powys BT is leaving us at a disadvantage, reinforcing the idea that Mid Wales is a no-go area for businesses to locate.
"Today I called for further action to assist those living in not spots in Brecon & Radnorshire; yet again BT's response was highly unsatisfactory. I will however continue to push for improved access for all of my constituents and to look at alternative sources of broadband."
