Kirsty receives the Female Devolved Parliament and Assembly Member of the Year award, pictured with other Dods 2009 winners
Welsh Liberal Democrat leader Kirsty Williams last night won the 'Devolved Parliament and Assembly Member of the Year' award in the Women in Public Life ceremony.
Taking place ahead of international women's day (March 8), the awards were held in London and celebrated the contributions of women in public life. Kirsty was short listed for the award along with Shona Robinson, Scottish Minister for Public Health and Dawn Purvis MLA and leader of the Progressive Unionist Party.
On receiving the award, Kirsty said:
"This is a great honour for me. I am very proud to be able to represent devolved female parliamentarians and assembly members from all across the UK and I am even more proud to be a member of the National Assembly for Wales.
"We play an ever increasing role in the lives of the people we represent. Not only do the devolved nations have better female representation than Westminster, we are increasingly taking over the important roles that affect the lives of the people we serve. From education, health and economic development, these are just some of the bigger issues people care about.
"It's always humbling to receive awards in recognition of the work you do, however we cannot rest on our laurels as there is always more work to be done to make devolution work for the people for Wales"
