At the Welsh Lib Dem Conference in Cardiff this weekend, Kirsty Williams, leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats, will offer a 'responsible and mature alternative' to political leadership in Wales. Given the recent immature and shallow political controversies on the internet and childish attacks on political leaders, Kirsty will promise a healthy and mature form of leadership for the people of Wales.
Speaking ahead of her Saturday conference speech, Kirsty said:
"Given the recent childish and attacking behaviour of other party leaders, there is no wonder why people feel disengaged with politicians.
"We know that new media and the internet offers the potential to connect with more people in Wales, and we're determined to seize that opportunity - but in a responsible way.
"It is already clear that on blogs, on Twitter and on YouTube - the old politics is proving to be as bereft of principle as it is creativity. We watch this tragic comedy unfold.
"As a party, we are becoming more professional at everything we do. We find that when we talk straight, allow open debate and reject the politics of spin and smear - our ideas are spread, shared and promoted further by a Welsh public desperate for honesty, substance and a clear sense of values.
"I want leaders of all political parties to respect each other and treat each other in a mature and responsible manner. This recent immature form of political leadership is not good for the image of this young Welsh democracy and it's not good for the image of Wales."
