Kirsty Williams AM for Brecon and Radnorshire has shown her support for the Howey Ashfield Community Enterprise (ACE) by becoming a shareholder in the new Community land trust. Kirsty bought shares in the Trust from their stand at the Hay Festival.

Following a three month Feasibility Study ACE is now registered as a Community Land Trust which allows it to raise funds by issuing shares to the public and to take a major step forward in its venture to acquire Ashfield, the eight acre Nursery site in Howey which is due to be sold. A key plank of the trusts funding strategy is to raise funds through selling shares. A minimum shareholding for membership is £20.

Kirsty Williams said: "I am very happy to be able to support the enterprise in their plans to buy the Ashfield site for the good of the local community. It has in the past been a great asset for Howey and if the plans are successful will be able to expand even further as a fantastic community resource.

"I am hopeful that the trust will be successful in their bid to buy the land and can then get about putting the land to good use for local people.

"I would encourage as many people as possible to help support this great project by buying shares."

Notes:

The Group was set-up in December 2008 following public concern about the possible loss of Ashfield which is within walking distance of Llandrindod Wells. For twenty years Ashfield had provided accommodation and work related activity for people with learning disabilities in Radnorshire and was well known locally for its weekly organic fruit and vegetable stall.

Since December the Group have been working hard to test the feasibility of Ashfield becoming a much broader resource that could address local issues by facilitating a range of activities on site for the benefit of the whole community. They now feel this is feasible and have put together a Business Plan to acquire and develop the site.
