Commenting on the decision by under-fire Prime Minister Gordon Brown to bring back Peter Hain as Welsh Secretary, Kirsty Williams, Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats said:
"This move just shows that Labour is in disarray in Westminster and that Wales will suffer the longer Gordon Brown hangs on to power. In the middle of a devastating recession and with Welsh voters demanding reform of parliament, this decision has to be seen as irrational and ill-timed. The Welsh Assembly Government is already hamstrung by the ongoing discussions with Westminster over new powers and the disruption this re-shuffle causes will do little to progress Welsh Devolution. Gordon Brown is desperate to find anybody who will sit quietly within his last-chance saloon cabinet and is unable to find Labour MPs who have the fresh perspective and clean record to signal a genuine change of direction towards a better politics."
