Kirsty Williams AM for Brecon and Radnorshire has today called upon the First Minister to help save Benson Heating in Knighton and its 50 jobs.
Benson Heating which produces Industrial heaters has in the last week had to call in the administrators and is now in talks to find alternatives to closure, including local takeover or a management buy-out.
Kirsty said: "This is a profitable and successful business, which is a major player in the market and a big employer in the area. They are struggling with cash flow under this recession but in the long term are a sound and lucrative business; it would be an unnecessary tragedy to loose Benson Heating. They need assistance to see them through this difficult period and through the downturn in their seasonal business, so that they can return to full production in the Autumn.
"I have already appealed to the Deputy First Minister for the Economy for his assistance to ensure that this business and its jobs are not lost and I have now called upon the First Minister to ensure that the Welsh Government is stimulating lending across the country for this and other small businesses like it.
"I am delighted the First Minister has agreed to look at support for Benson Heating and I will be maintaining my pressure on the Welsh Government to safeguard its future."
