Kirsty Williams AM for Brecon and Radnorshire has added her voice of congratulations to the hard working community of Llanwrtyd Wells on being named Calor Gas village of the year for Wales.
The small Powys town stages a number of out of the ordinary events, including the Man versus Horse race and bog snorkelling championships. As a prize it will receive £10,000 to be invested in community projects.
Kirsty Williams said:" I am delighted that Llanwrtyd Wells has been awarded this impressive title, and would like to pay tribute to all those villagers who have worked so hard to achieve this success.
"Many of our rural communities are struggling under reduced services and a younger population moving to urban areas, but Llanwrtyd Wells has used a tremendous community spirit to make the most of local opportunities and to maintain and enhance quality of life for its residents.
"I am pleased that the judges have recognised that the town's people have worked relentlessly towards making Llanwrtyd a lively and sociable place to live."
