Brecon & Radnorshires MP and AM have warmly welcomed the news that BT Payphones has decided not to remove the payphone at Forest Coal Pit near Abergavenny, following objections from the local community councils in the area, Monmouthshire County Council and local people.
The two Brecon & Radnorshire politicians were alerted to the potential payphone removal and immediately added their weight to the objections.
Mr. Williams said:
This common-sense decision reflects the value of local county and community councils having a strong say in these matters. I feel much happier knowing that an area as much-visited as the Forest Coal Pit one will still have a payphone, particularly given the lack of a mobile phone signal there.
Ms. Williams added:
This is also a tribute to the vigilance of local people and the local councils and shows the value of keeping a watchful eye on these vital local facilities. I am very pleased that BT payphones responded positively to the objections to its proposals and has also committed to repairing the telephone line serving the payphone as soon as possible.
