Kirsty battles with Minster for more action

Kirsty Williams AM, Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats has criticised the Heritage Minister's delays on action to secure the future of Welsh Battlefield sites.
Kirsty used questions to the Minister for Heritage to challenge him on yesterday's announcement that a battlefields register will be put in place by July 2010; following pressure from Kirsty for greater protection and promotion of these historic sites.
Kirsty Williams said:" Whilst I welcome the Minister's announcement that a register will be produced I find it incredulous that it will take a year to even begin the consultation process.
"There are a number of organisations, such as the Welsh battlefields society, which are already working hard on the ground to preserve battle sites, with little or no support from the Welsh Government.
"We are calling for practical action to promote the sites as attractions of historic and cultural interest to the wider public and tourists and this will require greater action than a register. We would like to see sites advertised both locally, regionally and on ordnance survey maps. Road signs must be erected and plaques with information about the sites put in place.
"Whilst it is true that budgets are tight we have the potential to take small and inexpensive measures which will promote our heritage and bring back both cultural and economic reward.
"I will continue to push the Minister for further action in order to assure the future of our Welsh heritage."
