Kirsty Williams AM for Brecon and Radnorshire is to host a 'Brew for the Few' Tea Party at the RAFA Club in Brecon to help raise funds for the Wings Appeal on Monday, 13th September 2010 between 11am and 1pm. Anyone is welcome to pop in for a cup of tea and help raise money for the Royal Air Forces Association's Wings Appeal.
Kirsty Williams said: "When I was contacted by the Royal Air Forces Association and asked if I would like to get involved with organizing one of their 'Brew for the Few' Events I was delighted to accept. The RAFA do a great job of supporting our current and former Air Force personnel and their families and this is a great way of meeting people involved in the organization as well as raising money for the Wings Appeal. I would welcome seeing as many people as possible at the RAFA Club in Brecon on the 13th of September."
Mike Chappell, Honorary welfare Officer for the Brecon Branch of the RAF Association said: "We are delighted that once again, Kirsty has taken the time to get involved with one of the Service Charities fundraising efforts. Recently, RAFA have launched some new initiatives to help serving members of the RAF and their families.
Miles More Minutes will enable men and women who are serving overseas to have more time to speak with their loved ones back home.
The Easter Egg Run this year involved over three thousand bikers from across the UK joining together in a massive ride out from Shrewsbury to RAF Cosford in convoy. The bikers brought Easter eggs for the families of RAF personnel and injured servicemen and women. They also donated money to the Wings Appeal which will provide help and support for past and present members of the RAF, including troops currently serving in Afghanistan.
Storybook Wings enables servicemen and women being posted abroad to record stories and special messages for their children on aCD using professional equipment and editors. This means even though they are far apart, they can still be together.
Our new logo sums up the reason for the Associations existence. It says quite simply - Friendship, Help, Support. We are very grateful to Kirsty that she can find time in her busy schedule to help to support us."
Notes:
The RAF Association is dedicated to supporting serving and former RAF personnel and their families. Whether it's an injured airman fighting to get back onto his feet, a young daughter missing her parent away on overseas operations or a WWII veteran needing a shoulder to lean on, we are there to help.
The RAF Association Wings Appeal raises around £2 million each year. We rely on the generosity and assistance of our members and supporters to generate the vital funds needed to facilitate our welfare support for those in need.
The nature of war has changed since World War II but not the nature of need. In villages, towns and cities throughout the UK, Branch members, serving RAF personnel, Air Cadets and volunteers will be organising fundraising events - anything from collections & coffee mornings to major air shows and hiking in foreign territories!
