Kirsty Williams AM for Brecon and Radnorshire has congratulated Brecknock YFC on being awarded just over £20,300 from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Brecknock YFC applied to the Heritage Lottery Fund for funding for their 'Epynt - Cadw'r Cof yn Fyw / Eppynt - Keeping Memory Alive' project. The project will mark the 70th Anniversary of the eviction of residents from Mynydd Eppynt which was acquired by the war office to make way for the Sennybridge Army Training Range in 1940. The project builds on a Welsh Language Drama which was commissioned and performed by Brecknock YFC Welsh Drama Company in February 2010.
Kirsty Williams said: "This is a very deserving project that will keep alive the memory of the events of 70 years ago. Historical projects are really important, both to learn about the events of the past and to help keep alive for the future the memory of a community removed from the Eppynt . The roving road show will take the experiences and memories of that community across the County for a new generation to learn about."
Notes:
The project will gather material and memories from those who lived through the eviction. It will work with young farmers groups across the county, school children and the wider community to celebrate the culture and heritage of the Epynt. The project includes gathering stories, photos, documents and artefacts for a touring exhibition; intergenerational story telling; a communal tea party and hymn singing festival; a schools day including demonstrations of pre-industrial farming techniques by older generation farmers and the creation of a DVD and web content to record the project and provide legacy for future generations.
